For two years, choreographer and dancer Daniel Mariblanca worked on the heartwarming performance A True Story. In this performance transgender people - from 8 to 66 - were on stage with their chosen family members. The choreography recounted their shared journey through movement, paintings, words and dance.
The process was captured by Mariblanca and illustrator Claudia De Sessa in the publication The Magical Book of A True Story. In this book, written letters from the performance’s protagonists are combined with De Sessa’s intimate illustrations. Some of these will be on display exclusively for What You See Festival this year. If you enjoy intimate details behind artistic processes, be sure to visit the Neude Library for this one-time-only exhibition.
Extra: on Monday 13 November, from 18:30 – 19:30 a conversation with both Daniel Mariblanca and Claudia De Sessa will take place at the Savannah Bay bookshop, where you can get your own signed version of the book! Afterwards, we will walk to De Neude Library to open the exhibition.
Want to experience more from Daniel Mariblanca? He will also give a workshop during What You See!
