Podcast maker, writer and activist Nanoah Struik has long celebrated their gender identity. However, they have so far been less vocal about their Nigerian roots. This year, Nanoah embarked on a journey to Nigeria to reconnect with their heritage and explore the vibrant local queer community. Exclusively for the What You See Opening Night, Nanoah has curated a diverse group of artists who eloquently express both their queerness and their Black heritage through art. This promises to be an unforgettable evening of spoken word, theater, dance, and meaningful dialogue!
Nanoah gives a first sneak preview podcast documentary with exclusive material for the audience of What You See. Nicchelle Buyne guides us on this journey with her beautiful and personal spoken word. House of Vineyard brings their vogueing to the theater, and Sunni Lamin Barrow joins with the show A Fist Of Tongues in conversation with his past and future self. Special guest is Nigerian filmmaker Ayo Lawson who will show their film 14 years and a day. Work by visual artist Kehinde Awofeso, who met Nanoah on their trip through Nigeria, is also on display.
