THIS IS WHAT YOU SEE FESTIVAL

At What You See, you’ll see work by artists who have rarely or never before been shown in the Netherlands, uniquely composed programmes, unexpected pop-up performances, research presentations, free exhibitions and much more.

But What You See Festival is above all an invitation to come together, to meet others, to examine your own assumptions and prejudices and to fantasise collectively about future realities and forms of being and living together.

Welcome!

BACKGROUND

In 2017 Vincent Wijlhuizen and Ieme Soes planned to organise a party to celebrate the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community. This plan quickly developed into a festival. They asked Annette van Zwoll to join them, Theater Kikker came on board as partner, they set up crowdfunding and in 2018 the first What You See Festival was a fact.

With dance, theatre, performance, exhibitions, music, workshops, parties, discussions and symposiums, the annual festival questions and overturns norms about gender and identity that are deeply embedded in our society and places new images and perspectives alongside them. Positively activist, inviting and connecting, What You See embraces discomfort and celebrates the multitude of gender and identity.
