What do LGBTQIA+ rights say about a country, and what does it mean to be LGBTQIA+ in Europe, today? How does international solidarity take shape? With art as a driving force, these are this symposium’s core topics. The symposium kicks off with a column by writer Lisa Weeda. The Flemish spoken word artist Hind Eljadid will show part of her documentary Beyond Borders, about LGBTQIA+ communities in various Eastern European countries. She has invited fashion designer Nikola Eftimov from North Macedonia, who will present a dazzling fashion show of diverse male bodies. The Bulgarian artist and activist Míhail Vuchkov grants us a rare glimpse into Bulgarian society and Pakistani trans activist and model Kami Sid brings her dance to the stage. The afternoon concludes with a pre-publication of Selm Merel Wenselaers’ new book after which they engage in a conversation with Sophie Schers about the state in the Netherlands. Activist, writer and podcast creator Nanoah Struik will guide you through this varied afternoon. Come and join the conversation!
