This year, What You See will once again take over the main hall of the Stadsschouwburg with Queer Chronicles! The community dance project is central to this impressive evening. Crowded Bodies XLA group of people from the LGBTQIA+ community collaborated under the guidance of Italian choreographer Daniele Ninarello, with assistance from WILD Productions, on a performance about how each person's own intimate and fluid expressions find a place within the collective. The result is a celebration of polyphony, trust, and closeness. But there's more! The evening will be enhanced with music by PARRA.DICE and new work by young cartoonist Ni(e)k van der Meulen. It promises to be a spectacular evening!
Please come a little earlier because there are works of art by HKU students and the film in the foyers Stand By, Please Miles Hop, a young, new trans filmmaker who has created a documentary based on his experience with waiting times in gender-based healthcare. And Dabke Night will also be in the foyers, so don't miss it!
PARRA.DICE
PARRA.DICE dreams of a free world without restrictive genres, labels, and other useless cages. The nine-piece v/x collective consists of a unique lineup of three wind instruments, a violin, and an extensive rhythm section. Their music is a collection of layered melodies, driving bass lines, and percussive rhythms that together form a colorful and groovy whole. Wherever PARRA.DICE takes the stage, the band effortlessly unites, moves, and collectively moves the audience.
Ni(e)k van der Meulen
On the evening of Queer Chronicles we will have, in addition to various speakers, the graphic novel by Ni(e)k van der Meulen (he/him) on display. Are memories reliable?
What value do we attach to memories? And can you ever tell an autobiographical truth? In this graphic novel, Ni(e)k van der Meulen explores childhood memories of gender, growing up, and being queer.
