In collaboration with the Amsterdam Fringe Festival, What You See is launching the brand-new I See You Award. Program maker Vera Bonder and co-curator Sunni Lamin Barrow visited several performances during the Amsterdam Fringe Festival that touched on the theme of humanity. Artist Aline Olmos Steler gained a place at the festival with The Origin of Future and received support in the development of a context program.
The Origin of Future
Have you ever searched for signs about the future? Maybe in coffee grounds, palm lines, tarot cards, or the stars above? What if we told you that some of you have been producing your own means of making sense of the future? Right between legs leaks a forgotten oracle: vaginal discharge. Imprinted on underwear.
And now is the time to revive it. By interpreting signs left every day in billions of panties, we confront premonitions, desires, fears, and visceral disgust. For years, these fluids have been sending messages to us. Are there dooms or hopes making our underwear wet? Aline Olmos Steler collects a phantasmagorical universe: Guided by an enigmatic curator through an exhibition of oracular underwear, you are invited to decode intimate prophecies, ascertain humanity’s future, and indeed transcend space, time, biological species, and fate itself. nn Al
