In this preview of the vibrant solo performance En toen schiep God Mounir [And then God created Mounir] the Egyptian-Dutch journalist, writer and theatre maker Mounir Samuel pushes the boundaries of ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, religion and sexes. In a contemporary genesis, in which various identities are peeled of, Samuel seeks for a rebirth of Adam: neither male nor female, but human. Starting from an Egyptian coffee house, the performance follows the extraordinary life of Samuel, who travelled as fly in correspondent over six continents, immersed himself as a Christian in Islam and experienced a national coming-out twice. Through the use of story telling, music, imagery and spoken word, Samuel savours the question of the meaning of true freedom – and how much he is actually willing to give up in its pursuit.
