At the age of eight, Joseph Toonga moved from Cameroon to the United Kingdom. His mother and aunts accompanied him and brought him up in London. Born To Exist is an ode to them. The three dancers are resilient, strong and vulnerable. Three women of colour building a life in a country full of prejudice. Born to Exist is the finale of a triptych in which untold stories of immigrants take centre stage. A hip-hop choreography that demands change and shows humankind in all its complexity.
On this evening you will also be treated to an audio work by performance artist Giorgia Ohanesian Nardin and a short performance by Pakistani dancer Kami Sid.
